Behavior Governing Library Use
Behaviors that are encouraged:
- Respect for other patrons and staff
- Respect for library facility, equipment, materials
- Community responsibility for appropriate conduct
Unacceptable Behaviors:
- Illegal
- Disruptive: Any behavior or physical obstacle that prevents any person from accomplishing appropriate library business
- Noise
- Unwelcome contact from another library user
- Inappropriate language, clothing, strong odor
- Physical impediments such as bicycles, backpacks, large groups of people, etc. that prohibit access to the facility or its contents
- Animals other than service animals assisting individuals with disabilities, or in training to do so, or animals under the control of a police officer or an animal handler authoried by Library staff to attend a special event conducted on the premises
- Abusive: any behavior with the potential to cause harm to the building or its contents, or to cause inequitable use of resources
- Food and drink other than during approved Library-sponsored events
- Computer abuses:
- Using more than allotted time
- Using another patron's library card for access
- Not paying for printing
- Viewing sexually explicit images
- Removing protective screens
- Darkening screens
- Changing settings that need professional attention to restore
- Accessing the Internet on the catalog stations
- Inappropriate use of restrooms, furniture, library materials
- Unsafe: any behavior with the potential to cause physical harm
- Unsupervised children
- Objects left in pathways
- Climbing, running, jumping
- Unaddressed: any behavior that elicits patron or staff concerns, with the expectation that patrons will respond to a reasonable request from staff
