NoveList Guide
A brief guide to using the database NoveList.
Are you looking for a good book to read? Do you have a favorite book or author and would like to read something similar? NoveList is a fiction database that can help you select your next book. You will have access to plot descriptions, reviews, and author websites as well as lists of recommended books in your favorite genre or in the style of your favorite author. This guide will help you access and use NoveList to start your next reading adventure.
Accessing NoveList

At the Library:
- Open the library Catalog (ActivePAC) and click on the Periodicals link. Choose Literature from the list on the left side of the screen and scroll down until you see NoveList.

From Any Internet Computer:

Open your Internet browser and go to the Washington County Cooperative Library Services ( WCCLS) homepage. Under Library Services, select Find your next read with Novelist. You will need to enter your Washington County Library Card Number.

Getting Around In NoveList

New Release:
- NoveList released new search, browing, and special features in March 2008. Click on NoveList Training in the Readers' Advisory box. Select New Release Notes on the top of the left hand side bar to learn about new changes.

Tutorial:
- Click on the Tour NoveList link in the My NoveList box for an introduction to NoveList. Or, select the NoveList Training link in the Readers' Advisory box for help sheets and search tips.

Searching:
- Click on the Basic Search box to search by Author, Title, Subject, Series Name, or Keywords. NoveList will search the book titles, authors, summaries, reviews, as well as feature content (Author Read-alikes, book discussion guides, etc) and return any books and feature content that meet your criteria.
- Limit your search by age group (Adults, Teen, Older Kids, Younger Kids) by clicking one or more boxes next to Limit in the Basic Search box.

Browsing
- Select a category from the Browse box to look through lists of Award Winning Books, Author Read-alikes, or Recommended Reads. Browsing lists are separated by age group categories.

Special Features in NoveList
|
- Find Similar Books: Search for a book you enjoyed and click the Find Similar Books link under the book cover image. Click on a subject heading for a list of other books with similar themes or plots.
- Author Read-Alikes: Search for a list of books that are similar in style to those of your favorite author. Browse for your favorite author by clicking on the Author Read-alikes link in the Browse box.
- Book Discussion Guides: Choose this feature to prompt great conversations at your next book club. Click on a Book Discussion Guides link under an age group heading in the Browse box. Select a book to link to an article and list of questions to bring to your next book discussion.
- Check Your Library Catalog: Look to see if Forest Grove City Library or another library in the Washington County Cooperative have the book you want. Click on the WCCLS logo to see which libraries own a copy.
